History of Education in Mississippi
1. Mississippi is ranked 46 out of the 50 states for education.
2. In 1997, a formula called Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP) was created to make sure every student— no matter their social class— would receive a good quality education; however, the state continues to receive an “F” for academic achievement and a “D” for a chance of success for students.
3. In 2012, MAEP was underfunded by $237, 386, 693. Currently, Mississippi is short on funding by 1.5 billion dollars.
4.In 2016, state revenues declined tremendously in MS during a recession causing the state to rely heavily on cuts especially in the school funding; and even now, qualified teachers and staff support were laid off being replaced by under skilled, young workers fresh out of schools, books are replaced by papers offline, and etc.
My Campaign Goals
1. I want us to change the way we determine a successful school by evaluating schools that are considered successful.
